Mantis Cranes are delighted to be working on the Meat Market development in Glasgow. The 10-hectare site is on the grounds of the original Meat Market and Slaughterhouse dating from 1817. The site was used as a car auction site until it closed in the 1980’s and it has been derelict ever since.
This area is undergoing significant regeneration with an estimated cost of £88 million and will create over 500 new homes in Glasgow’s east end. Funding for this substantial development will come from Glasgow City Council’s Affordable Housing Supply Programme and also private finance generated by Home Group.
The housing will be created in 2 areas with 250 flats along Belgrove Street and Duke Street and a further 250 in the Carlton Village Development. The 250 new flats will be a mix of 1 and 2-bed units split across 19 flat types and will be incorporated across four blocks around the site. These range between four and six storeys high, with frontage on to Duke Street and Bellgrove Street. The Carlton Village Development will include large family and wheelchair-friendly terraced houses.
The local community were consulted prior to finalising the development of this historic Glasgow site and the regeneration of this iconic area aims to keep the needs of families to the fore. These bright spacious homes will be built in keeping with the original tenement buildings of this historic area. This well-planned Meat Market Development will bring renewed energy to this area of Glasgow.
Mantis Cranes have erected a Potain IGO T85A and a Potain HDT80 self-erecting tower crane on the Meat Market site. These cranes will be relocated to service all areas of the site. With a max lift of 6 Tonnes, these cranes are 2 of the largest self-erecting tower cranes available for hire in the Mantis Cranes fleet.
